CNC LATHE OPERATOR

Terms of Employment:Casual, on call, ongoing

Salary:$23.99-$28.22 PER HOUR

Anticipated Start Date:ASAP

Times:7:00 am to 3:15 pm / 3:15pm to 1:30pm ( 4 days a week 10 hour days in the summer)

Location:Thorold, ON

Work Setting:Outdoors, messy, fast pace, and working in a confined space.

Work Summary:Machines materials according to specifications provided by the Plant Manager. Operates equipment in accordance with proper operation and safety procedures. Provides technical assistance to machine operators in the set-up and programming of machining centers throughout the facilities in accordance with proper operation and safety procedure. Operates equipment in accordance with proper and safety procedures

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily check sheet in its entirety at the beginning of each shift
  • Ensures that all machined materials and parts conform to specification
  • Reports non-conformances to the Quality Manager or the Plant Manager
  • Complete accurately and fully all required documentation for the job (move orders, job cards, etc.)
  • Completes all required in process inspection sheets
  • Deburr all parts
  • Report damage to tools and machines immediately and log into job card
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Meet time job estimates
  • Responsible for loading and unloading of the machine using safe work practices
  • Perform any additional duties or tasks your supervisor requests
  • Responsible for the proper set-up of machines
  • Resolves any machining issues
  • Be a contributing member of the continuous improvement team
  • Program machines
  • Develop machine programs
  • Participate in the RFQ process when requested
  • Be familiar with technical requirements and machine set-up and maintenance
  • Perform any additional duties or tasks your supervisor may request
  • Apply knowledge of machines shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, and machines like me, using machinery ( Manual and CNC lathes, Milling machines, horizontal boring Mills etc.) hand and power tools
  • Read and interpret blue prints, sketches, drawings, manual specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions, surface finishes and tolerances a finish work pieces
  • Meet job time estimates
  • Supplies own tools when required
  • Complete daily check sheets in its entirety at the beginning of each shift
  • Utilizes measuring tools used in the machine trade
  • Ensures that all machined materials and parts conform to specification
  • Reports non-conformances to Quality Manager or to the Plant Manager/General Manager
  • Complete accurately and fully all required documentation for the job (move orders, job cards, etc.)
  • Inspect work in progress and upon completion for adherence to drawing specifications
  • Responsible for the loading and un-loading of machine using the overhead crane, marking the finished product and mixing all lubricants
  • Completes all required in process inspection sheets
  • Report damage to tools machines immediately and log into job card
  • Determine the root cause for tooling issues
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts for accuracy conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers , height gauges, depth a micrometer, thread gauges and other specialized instruments
  • Repair and build fixtures and jigs For production purposes
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor in quality control
  • Inspects quality to ensure conformance with tolerances
  • Be familiar with technical requirements and machine set-up maintenance
  • Perform any additional duties to task your supervisor requests.

Requirements:

  • Physical demands require the ability to handle weights up to 25 kg (55 lbs)
  • Ability to run production or repeat job meeting job specifications and time limits
  • Ability to run short run/high value jobs
  • Ability to produce product meeting tight tolerance requirements
  • Ability to move from “job to job/day to day” to meet production requirements with minimal training
  • Be knowledgeable of ISO/TS 16949 requirements and standards
  • Be familiar with Health and Safety Rules and Regulations
  • Confers with the managers, supervisors and quality department to resolve issues
  • Be a assertive team player
  • Process strong written and communication skills
  • Verifies the diameter and length of the order conducts visual inspections of the product
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Plant Manager/General Manager including keeping the work area clean and tidy
  • Confers with the quality department and supervisors to resolve issues.
